Polish companies by sector and formation growth (register data, 2026)
In short
All 734,565 active Polish companies in our register pull carry a registration date, and 149,644 of them registered on or after 1 January 2024, a 20.4 percent two-year share. Beauty and wellness leads that share at 30.1 percent, education and training follows at 27.7 percent, and agriculture sits last at 11.6 percent. Mazowieckie holds 244,632 companies, a third of the country and more than the next three voivodeships together. The registration field reaches back only to 26 January 2001, which is a KRS digitisation boundary rather than evidence about older Polish companies.

Method: what this page counts
Read the method before the numbers, and read the 2001 boundary before anything else. It changes what every row on this page can be used for.
Source. The companies table of the Ripe Leads register database, opened read only, filtered to country = PL. The provenance table records 475,273 Polish company entries against a register export logged on 20 July 2026. Every Polish row in the table was last written between 14 July and 25 July 2026.
What counts as active. One row is one Polish legal entity carrying an active status. All 734,565 Polish rows in the table hold that status, and all 734,565 carry a registration date and a sector value, so nothing on this page is dropped for a missing field except in the voivodeship table below.
The 2001 boundary. Registration dates run from 26 January 2001 to 20 June 2026. That floor is a property of the source, not of the Polish economy. The Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy replaced the older commercial register on 1 January 2001, and companies carried over from the previous system commonly appear with a KRS entry date from 2001 rather than their original founding date. Treat every date on this page as the date the entity entered the current register.
Why a two-year window. Our Lithuanian page measures the share of each sector formed in the last five years, because the Lithuanian register reaches back to 1980. Applying a five-year window to a register whose floor is 2001 would measure something different, so this page uses companies registered on or after 1 January 2024 and calls the result a two-year share. The two pages are not directly comparable and are not meant to be.
Voivodeship. Region comes from the county field, which carries voivodeship names. 734,234 rows hold a value, and 734,208 of those match one of the sixteen official voivodeships. The remaining 26 carry misspellings or a city name in the wrong field, and 331 rows carry nothing at all. The voivodeship table therefore counts 734,208 rows against 734,565 elsewhere on the page.
When these companies were registered
Grouped into five-year bands, with the first band short by one year and the last short by three.
| Registered | Active companies | Share of register |
|---|---|---|
| 2001 to 2004 | 65,754 | 9.0% |
| 2005 to 2009 | 42,617 | 5.8% |
| 2010 to 2014 | 90,609 | 12.3% |
| 2015 to 2019 | 179,587 | 24.4% |
| 2020 to 2024 | 265,606 | 36.2% |
| 2025 to 2026 | 90,392 | 12.3% |
| All active companies | 734,565 | 100% |
The 2005 to 2009 band is the smallest full band in the file at 42,617, below the four-year band that precedes it. The 2020 to 2024 band holds 265,606 companies, more than 2001 to 2014 combined. Across the whole file, 535,585 of the 734,565 companies, 72.9 percent, entered the register from 2015 onwards.
The 2025 to 2026 band already holds 90,392 companies on fourteen and a half months of data, which annualises above the 2020 to 2024 run rate. Read that as a register still filling rather than as a forecast: the pull stops on 20 June 2026 and the second half of the year is absent.
Sector, and the share registered in the last two years
All 734,565 companies carry a sector value, including the 70,820 labelled Uncategorised. The last column is each sector’s own two-year share rather than a share of the register.

Download the sector table as CSV. The file carries the same twenty rows in the same order, so a reader can reconcile it against the page line by line. Reuse it with attribution to Ripe Leads.
Beauty and wellness runs the highest two-year share at 30.1 percent on 9,203 companies, and education and training follows at 27.7 percent on 18,254. Both are service sectors with a low cost of entry, so the register fills quickly and empties quickly. Agriculture sits last at 11.6 percent and Uncategorised at 9.0 percent, the two oldest groups in the file.
Construction and trades is the interesting row. It holds 69,839 companies, fifth largest in the file, and registers 18,564 of them in the two-year window, a 26.6 percent share that beats every sector above it in size. In absolute terms that is the second largest cohort of new companies in Poland after professional services, which needs 112,348 companies to produce its 23,124.
Manufacturing and industry runs the other way: 80,894 companies, the second largest sector, and a 19.0 percent two-year share. Wholesale and distribution is lower still at 16.5 percent. Polish industry and its distribution channel are both established, which matters for anyone selling into them rather than alongside them.
Voivodeship
734,208 companies carry one of the sixteen official voivodeships. Shares run against that base.
| Voivodeship | Active companies | Share | Registered 2024 or later | Two-year share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mazowieckie | 244,632 | 33.3% | 46,918 | 19.2% |
| Wielkopolskie | 69,374 | 9.4% | 15,070 | 21.7% |
| Śląskie | 67,762 | 9.2% | 13,484 | 19.9% |
| Małopolskie | 65,352 | 8.9% | 13,360 | 20.4% |
| Dolnośląskie | 61,671 | 8.4% | 12,343 | 20.0% |
| Pomorskie | 43,486 | 5.9% | 9,887 | 22.7% |
| Łódzkie | 32,143 | 4.4% | 7,216 | 22.4% |
| Kujawsko-Pomorskie | 24,181 | 3.3% | 5,013 | 20.7% |
| Zachodniopomorskie | 23,273 | 3.2% | 4,602 | 19.8% |
| Lubelskie | 22,231 | 3.0% | 4,776 | 21.5% |
| Podkarpackie | 21,716 | 3.0% | 4,788 | 22.0% |
| Lubuskie | 13,312 | 1.8% | 2,610 | 19.6% |
| Podlaskie | 13,069 | 1.8% | 2,820 | 21.6% |
| Warmińsko-Mazurskie | 12,440 | 1.7% | 2,749 | 22.1% |
| Świętokrzyskie | 10,041 | 1.4% | 2,102 | 20.9% |
| Opolskie | 9,525 | 1.3% | 1,904 | 20.0% |
| Sixteen voivodeships | 734,208 | 100% | 149,642 | 20.4% |
Mazowieckie holds 244,632 companies, a third of the register and more than Wielkopolskie, Śląskie and Małopolskie combined. Warsaw sits inside it, and a registered office in the capital does not mean the work happens there, so treat the Mazowieckie row as a registration address concentration rather than a map of Polish economic activity.
The two-year share is flat across the country. Fifteen of the sixteen voivodeships sit between 19.2 and 22.7 percent, a spread of 3.5 points, and Mazowieckie is the lowest of the sixteen despite holding the most companies. New company registration in Poland is distributed roughly in proportion to the existing base, which means a regional campaign gains nothing from chasing a growth region and everything from picking the region where the target sector already sits.
Pomorskie at 22.7 percent and Warmińsko-Mazurskie at 22.1 percent lead the two-year share, both northern and both small. Opolskie, the smallest voivodeship in the file at 9,525 companies, sits at 20.0 percent, level with Dolnośląskie which is six and a half times its size.
Legal form
Ten legal forms cover 732,610 of the 734,565 companies, 99.7 percent. The remaining 1,955 spread across 33 further forms.
| Legal form | Active companies | Share | Registered 2024 or later | Two-year share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sp. z o.o., limited liability company | 620,841 | 84.5% | 135,763 | 21.9% |
| Sp.k., limited partnership | 31,774 | 4.3% | 2,376 | 7.5% |
| Sp.j., general partnership | 29,820 | 4.1% | 2,092 | 7.0% |
| Fundacja, foundation | 16,955 | 2.3% | 4,045 | 23.9% |
| Spółdzielnia, cooperative | 9,201 | 1.3% | 1,143 | 12.4% |
| Stowarzyszenie, association | 7,847 | 1.1% | 971 | 12.4% |
| S.A., joint stock company | 6,266 | 0.9% | 353 | 5.6% |
| P.S.A., simple joint stock company | 4,415 | 0.6% | 2,433 | 55.1% |
| S.K.A., limited joint stock partnership | 3,091 | 0.4% | 191 | 6.2% |
| Sp.p., professional partnership | 2,400 | 0.3% | 229 | 9.5% |
| Ten forms above | 732,610 | 99.7% | 149,596 | 20.4% |
Poland is a one-form register. The spółka z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością, the limited liability company, holds 84.5 percent of every active record and supplies 135,763 of the 149,644 registrations in the two-year window. Lithuania splits its register between two working forms; Poland does not.
The P.S.A. is the row worth watching. Poland introduced the simple joint stock company on 1 July 2021 for founders who want share capital of one zloty and flexible share classes, and 2,433 of its 4,415 active records registered in the last two years, a 55.1 percent share against 21.9 percent for the Sp. z o.o. It is still small at 0.6 percent of the register, and it is the fastest filling form in the country.
The partnership forms run the other way. Sp.k. at 7.5 percent, Sp.j. at 7.0 percent, S.K.A. at 6.2 percent and S.A. at 5.6 percent are all forms the register is carrying rather than adding to. A target list filtered to partnerships selects for older, established firms without meaning to.
What formation growth is and what it is not
This page measures new legal entities entering a register. It does not measure hiring, revenue, headcount or investment, and the two often move in opposite directions. Beauty and wellness leads on formation share and holds 9,203 companies. Manufacturing and industry sits eleven points lower and holds 80,894. A campaign built on the formation share alone would target the smaller market.
Formation share is useful for one question: where is the incumbent supplier relationship absent? A company registered in 2024 has not yet settled its accountant, its logistics provider, its software or its recruitment partner. Construction and trades is the strongest case in Poland on that reading, with 18,564 companies registered in the window inside a sector of 69,839.
It is misleading for a second question: which sector is growing? A register grows when companies enter it and shrinks when they leave, and this pull holds only the survivors. A sector with high formation and high closure looks identical here to a sector with high formation and low closure. Reading a growth story out of either would need a second pull to compare against, and we will publish one when the next refresh lands.
Our companion pages cover how many companies there are in Poland with the voivodeship, sector and revenue splits, new registrations by year, and the Lithuanian equivalent of this page.
